A letter advising that an allegation against [John] Dearle, the head schoolmaster by Richard Berkes [Birkes] the town's reader and usher of the school, for publishing a supposed declaration by the [Jacobite] 'Pretender' [James Frances Edward Stuart], was motivated by 'spite an d malice' arising from a complaint to the Bishop over Berkes' neglect of duty. Request that the matter be referred to Lord Gower and Sir Brian Broughton, and that Pearle not be sent for form London but tried locally. Cover additionally signed by Hen [Henry] Dolphin and Wm [William] Parker.
