Folios 90-91. From John Lightbody. Place: Fleet Prison [London. Middlesex].
A letter petitioning for examination or release, following his detention by Lord Townsend's warrant, in connection with a letter being publicly hawked, intended only as 'a caution to some of the late South Sea [Company] gentlemen'. The author also offers information; and he attempts to win favour by referring to a 'Popish [Roman Catholic] villain lately got out of close custody and whom I was obliged publicly to beat into better manners'.
