A letter in which the writer, a Colonel of Foot who served in Portugal under Lord Portmore, seeks support for his petition for recompense in the light of his service to the [British] Crown, mentioning [the Irish Jacobite] Lord Townshend and Lord Grafton. He identifies himself as the nephew of Count Nugent [Henry Nugent, Count of Valdesoto and Viscount Coolamber, governor of Gibraltar during the Habsburg occupation in 1704]; outlines his family's military service to the Crown and the provisions made by the recipient for them in Spain and Portugal; and mentions his capture at sea and imprisonment in France, after a fight with a French privateer.
