Part 1, Folio 113. From Tho [Thomas] Brooke. To Duke of Newcastle.
A letter concerning an estate which belonged, four years ago, to 'one Esquire Thomas, deceased', whose sister is the beneficiary of the estate, but who has been 15 years in a 'lunatic asylum'. The writer, a shoemaker by Christ's Church [Christchurch], Southwark [Surrey], believes the estate should fall to the crown, but is now in the hands of somebody pretending to look after it for the sister, who he believes to be dead. The estate includes a property formerly in the hands of the Knights Templar, and the Knights Hospitalers of St John of Jerusalem.
