The petition of John Conrad Weisser, Gerhard Wallrath, and William Shape, in the name of the Palatine Colony [poor German Protestants] sent to New York in 1710. The petition outlines: the orders of the Governor Colonal [Robert] Hunter to settle in 'a great forest to prepare tar', which proved infeasible; the abandonment of them by Colonel Hunter; the assistance they received from the [Mahican and Iroquois?] 'Indians' [indigenous native Americans]; their development of a piece of land at ?Shugary for arable use; the appropriation and sale of the land to Robert Lowenstein, mayor of Albania [?Albany, New York], and others; and the prospective eviction from their land by the new proprietors.
