Petition of Robert Blackburne [Blackburn], John Bernardi, Robert Cassils, Robert Meldrum and James Chambers, prisoners in Newgate, asking King George I for mercy. They were committed to Newgate in 1696 upon suspicion of high treason [against William III] and during their confinement there 'have undergone all the hardshipps which dungeons, fetters, close imprisonment, sickness, poverty and want could inflict'.
