The National Atmospheric Emissions Inventory (NAEI) is funded by Defra, the National Assembly for Wales, the Scottish Government and the Department of the Environment, Northern Ireland. The NAEI compiles estimates of emissions to the atmosphere from UK sources such as cars, trucks, power stations and industrial plants. These emissions are estimated to help to find ways of reducing the impact of human activities on the environment and on the health of the population.
The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) also became a partner of the NAEI in 2017. In 2023, BEIS dissolved and the succeeding Department for Energy Security and Net Zero became a partner for NAEI.
