Part 2, Folios 47-48. From Colonel John Pepper. To The King in Council.
Petition that since his appointment to be Head Ranger of Enfield Chase in 1716 he has expended large sums of his own money in the repair of buildings etcetera, and in maintaining keepers to prevent the poaching of venison and destruction of timber; that a prosecution has been brought against him, promoted he believes by persons uneasy at his zeal for the King's service, to show that he wrongfully holds this office. Praying that this matter may be looked into in the most expeditious manner without legal formalities.
