Petition. That the loss of his post as Lieutenant-Governor of [the island of] Jersey and command of an Independent Company there has reduced him to the greatest necessity and deprived him of all means of supporting himself and his family and praying to be granted an equivalent to his former post 'in consideration of his long service and his whole fortune laid out therein'. [Note Howard was dismissed by Order in Council dated 8 April 1731].
