Petition that Delafaye intercede with the Duke of Newcastle for the petitioner to be granted a passport so that he may come visit England in order to raise funds on behalf of 'all the poor Christians settled' at Damascus [Syria] whose freedom to exercise their religion depends upon the payment of annual tributes to the Turks, 'which of late years has been so burthensome and excessive they are wholly unable to answer it' resulting in their persecution. Geamati also intends to seek the assistance of other Christians in Europe. Mr [Theocharis] Dadichi is mentioned.
