Description

Folios 164-172. From Mary Mackenzie, wife of William, late Earl of Seaford. (1) Mary Kennett. (4) N [Nicholas] Lechmere.

Petition praying that the estate left by her father Nicholas Kennett of Coxhow, Durham, may be granted to her for her maintenance, in the light of the forfeiture of her late husband's estate when he was attainted for treason [in connection with the Jacobite Rebellion]. Endorsed, by J [James] Cragg [the younger], with a referral to the law officers, for their report. (1) Affidavit of Mary Kennett, widow of Nicholas Kennett, who died in May 1715, describing her husband's debts and estate, which included lands at Elden, Cornforth Farm and Cornforth Colliery. Mentions: her husband's eldest brother Cuthbert Kennett and his wife Frances; his brothers Charles Kennett and Henry Kennett; Thomas Kennett; Michael Bland; Humphrey Arrowsmith; Samuel Langdale; Ralph Smith; John Ingleby; John Stephenson of Newcastle upon Tyne [Northumberland], merchant; John Agnesley [Aynesley], of Hexham [Northumberland]. Dated on 29 January 1719 before F Dormer. (2) Schedule showing the estates of the late Lord Seaforth in the county of Durham and their annual value, as per the 'register of real estates forfeited'. Signed by Geo [George] Turnbull. (3) 'Extract of claims made and entered before the commissioners and trustees on the estate late of William Mackenzie, Lord Seaforth', also mentioning: ?Eadem; Frances Kennett; William Kennett; John Yaxley; William Bradshaugh; Robert Blakeston; Ralph Bird; Richard Banks; Sir Robert Eden; John Garthwaite; John Heaton; John Hodshon; Anthony Hall; Mary Ingleby; Nicholas Paxton; John Midleton [Middleton]; Garrard Salvin; Mark Shaftoe; William Wilkinson; John Walton; Jane Worthy; John Widdifield. (4) Attorney-general's report in favour of the petitioner, dated on 4 February 1719.
