A letter enclosing papers printed at Norwich [Norfolk] giving false reports of the 'late action with the Spanish fleet', published 'to animate the Jacobite and disaffected party', and desiring him to report in what manner 'spreaders of false news concerning war and peace abroad' may be prosecuted. The prosecution against [Nathaniel] Mist 'upon the complaint of the Muscovite Minsiter' is recalled. (1) Query concerning spreading false news in print or in writing, endorsed [Anthony] Cratcherode; with a legal opinion advising that it may only be prosecuted, if libelous.
