Description

Folios 76-79. From Sir Gilbert Heathcote, Record of London. (1) Bodenham Rewse. (2) Sir William Thompson. To Sir William Thomson. (1) [Gilbert Heacthcote]. (2) Lord Townsend.. Place: Low Layton [Leyton, Essex]. (1) Newgate Gaol [London].

A letter concerning condemned prisoner William Smith, enclosing a letter Under-Keeper [of Newgate prison] Bodenham Rewse. (1) Rewse's letter concerning confusion over whether or not Smith is a previous offender. (2) A letter seeking a reprieve for Smith, mentioning his crime of stealing a silver tankard, beloning to publican Mr Moor, dated on 23 April 1716.
