Part 2, Folio 54. From C [Carew] Reynell.
'Sir, I am to wait upon you, with several of the Fellows of Exeter College Oxon in great respect, only to acquaint you, that they and their Rector are agreed, and have prepared a petition under the seal of their College to be presented to His Majesty against the incorporating of Hart Hall, and they humbly hope that their presenting the same now after a warrant for a charter is ordered will not be looked upon as unbecoming and disrespect to his Grace my Lord Duke, and if you should apprehend any such consequence, their humble request is that the petition of Doctor Newton may at least be re-referred'. [Doctor Newton's petition was presented on 18 May 1723].
