Folio 99. From Captain Neil Marchand. To George I.
Petition for a pension to enable him to support his father and mother. He served in the army and suffered severe wounds. The Duke of Marlborough ordered a commission of an independent company in Jamaica, but because this was in late Earl Stanhope's province, the commission was given to Captain Delawny. Earl Stanhope was directed to offer the next vacancy to Captain Marchand, but after his Lordship's death, this did not happen, and Captain Marchand purchased a company to enable him to receive half pay as a Captain. This is not enough to support his elderly parents who have lost two other sons in the army, without receiving any benefits.
