Folios 66-67. From John Webb, Linen draper. To George I. Place: Southwark.
Petition of Webb for compensation for losses relating to damage to his sloop, and for John Ridge the Master, who gave information about supporters of the Pretender. An East India Company employer suspected Ridge, and had him imprisoned by John Gibson, Governor of Portsmouth. His voyage could not take place, the sloop was damaged and the men needed wages. Although Earl Stanhope and Earl Sunderland promised Ridge employment, nothing was forthcoming and his family was reduced to poverty.
