Description

Captured ship: La Madonna Santissima Rosario (master Antonio Michel).

History: a Spanish merchant ship (60 tons, 11 men, previously captured as a prize from the English in c. 1744 and sold at Cadiz), bound from Rosaria to Amsterdam, laden with brandy, lemons and oil; taken on 16/27 June 1748 off Calais by the privateer Amazon (Gilbert Chain commanding), and brought into Dover.

  • [CP 6]: attestation and claim of the master, 15 July 1748;
  • [CP 7]: attestation and claim of Henry Loubier on behalf of Johann Heinrich Sentrup, Hamburg merchant, for the cargo, 2 August 1748;
  • [CP 8]: attestation of Henry Loubier to be awaiting letters proving Sentrup purchased and owned the goods on board, 3 February 1748;
  • [CP 9]: set of attestation, affidavit and translation taken and sealed by the ruling authorities of Hamburg on behalf of Sentrup, 20 July 1748, and brought into court in October 1748;
  • [CP 10-CP 13]: attestation of Henry Loubier as to Sentrup being the rightful owner and two translations of a letter by the master confirming details of the ship's cargo and voyage, brought into court 18 October 1748;
  • [CP 14]: allegation, 17 December 1748;
  • [CP 15]: copy of an act of court, 22 May 1749;
  • [CP 16-CP 19]: commission of appraisement, attestation and appraisement, brought into court 22 August 1749;
  • [CP 20-CP 21]: attestation as to papers and abstract and translations of the 7 ship's papers, brought into court 25 June 1748.

Ship's Papers numbered SP 1-SP 7.
