Part 1, Folios 22-23. From [Sir John Eyles]. To Duke of Newcastle Upon Tyne. Place: South Sea House.
Requesting that Admiral Hosier may be ordered to demand and secure the great concerns of the South Sea Company now in the possession and power of the Spaniards at Portobello, Cartagena and Vera Cruz. Eyles refers to letters just arrived giving news 'which not a little surprises us' of an agreement reached between Admiral Hosier and Cornejo the Spanish Admiral the result of which is that the Spanish vessels seized by Hosier have been released with their cargoes whilst those seized by the Spanish have been released but their cargo of bullion retained. Eyles observes 'prima facie our Admiral seems overreached in this Agreement but he may probably, though I cannot, accompt for it'.
