Description

Folios 13-14. Letter. 'In terms of our coming I have been looking out for the Highland cows you wanted which I find are both scarce and not easily purchased, however I am positive to deal in some few let the prices be what they will but before I run too great a risk I must have a distinct and full assurance of the circumstance I am to engage upon and the fewest number that will be accepted of and there are other gentlemen in the neighbourhood who incline to deal that way as well as [there follow what appear to be three names] and you ensuring them of encouragement are determined [to] buy up immediately. You will therefore as soon as possible acquaint us by your constituents how or in what way we are to deal it now [being] pretty well over in the year and if there is much time lost, we must lose this year's dealing. If by your return we find encouragement so as to run all hazards you must order us some ready money [?] that we can the easier purchase and will contribute to hasten our despatch. You will also, if possible, order things so as to take of our hands more or less numbers as we buy up since we have little good grass or keeping of our own. As for the above gentlemen, I mean A[?] he is to deal jointly with me but I am not positive in what 'shape the [?] is until he sees his encouragement. My cousin the bearer can give you a hint of some [?] particulars which I have not time insert by referring the right manner of [?] of the whole to your better conduct'. Signed ?Aeneas Farquharson.
