Description

Part 2, Folios 77-100. From William Thomson, Record [of London]. Place: Middlesex.

A report into the murder of Charles Fox [some informations give Christopher Fox] at a boxing match between one Newsham and a baker, at Holloway Mount, St Leonards Shoreditch [Middlesex]. Two soldiers were involved; William Jones was acquitted, and Peter Piercy was convicted. On conflicting evidence, after investigations by Thomas Robe, Thomson recommends mercy for Peircy. He also comments on the problems caused by armed soldiers 'especially since the late increase of strong water shops'.
