The petition of William Hinton seeking letters patent for his invention of a new means of 'extracting and calcining the lixiviate salt of ashes of wood and other vegetables', which he suggests could mean a reduction of the pot ash and pearl ash imported from the 'Baltics', and elsewhere. The petition is referred to a law officer by Lord Townsend. (1) Hinton's affidavit concerning his invention, dated on 25 June 1726. (2) The Attorney General's report in favour of the petitioner, dated on 2 July 1726. (3) A letter requesting the law officers to prepare a bill granting letters patent to the petitioner, dated on 8 July 1726.
