Part 1, Folio 67.
A seized letter concerning the authors failed efforts to publish a manifesto from [Spain's Ambassador in London] the Marquis of Pozzobueno on the detention of the Duke of Ripperda at the residence of the British ambassador in Madrid, Colonel [William] Stanhope. The newspapers fear being called to account by the government. The Dutch and French press have reported the Emperor [Charles VI] as trying to link the matter to the Ostend [Company] trade. The letter was taken from Mr Perry's pocket by the messengers Daniel Chandler and John Turner senior.
