Folios 179-181. John Sauré of Dover, Kent to the Duke of Newcastle. Petition that he has worked as clerk to Bryan Pybus, Agent of the King's packet boats at Dover since 29 September 1743 having given up a good livelihood to do so induced chiefly by a letter from Andrew Stone, at the direction of the Duke of Newcastle, to pay an annual allowance of £50 but payment of which Mr Pybus has been unable to obtain; Mr Pybus has been in poor health for sometime and Sauré is apprehensive that he may find himself entirely destitute and unemployed and therefore prays for the necessary orders (in the event of Mr Pybus dying) establishing him as either clerk or deputy to the new Agent at a salary of £50 per annum or otherwise provided for as the Duke sees fit. [Note f.179 after f.180]. (f.180) Copy of Bryan Pybus's certificate confirming Sauré's employment from Michaelmas 1743 to the date of the certificate (28 February 1746/7) and authorising him to apply for and receive the arrears of the allowance for Pybus's use.
