Folio 158. Sir Everard Fawkener to Mr [Andrew] Stone. Letter. 'Sir, Martin Lindsay the person recommended by Lord Leven for mercy was dismissed from the Bar at Carlisle. His Royal Highness the Duke [of Cumberland] promised to speak about Andrew Porteous, who is thoroughly solicited for by Miller of Perth who has taken great pains in the public service and I gave his name to Mr Sharpe, Brigadier Mordaunt and I have engaged so far to Millar that I hope he will not have reason to complain we have neglected him. I enclose you a note for a memorandum to me from a fair lady, she is one of the Justice Clerk's daughters [?] to guess will be saved. Her father's services may as well entitle her to that privilege as many others who will put in for it but this as those who have the best right to determine may think fit. I have at last my extraordinary epistle'. [For the note see SP 36/161/1/161 below].
