Petition of Alexr [Alexander] Blain late high Constable for the Roxley Hundred in Kent who, as a result of his actions on behalf of the government 'in the time of the late Troubles in ?Kent, was stabbed and his shop robbed by John Noe and Henry Valentine who were indicted at Rochester Assizes in March 1719. Their trial being held over he has been unable to prosecute them 'for in the very roads they lay in wait to take away' his life. He prays for relief for himself and his family who are starving. Names mentioned are Tristram Whitehore, Squire Gee of Arpintone [? Orpington], Joseph Mitchell, Thomas Cox, Thomas Chapman, Henry Webb, Thomas King, Mary Staple and Susana Walls. Endorsed 'No order 12 August 1725'. Annexed is 'the distressed and mournful complaint of Alexr [Alexander] Bland [sic]' in which he relates his past services to the Crown.
