'My Lord This is to beg the favour of your Lordship to deliver the enclosed to his Majesty. It is to own to him my marriage to Mistress Lucy Pelham and to beg his pardon for having married without his leave. I must at the same time claim the honour of being related to your Lordship and beg your favour and protection which I shall always endeavour to deserve'.
