That orders have been given to the officers in the Thames and those on the coast from Gravesend and Rye, Sussex to search the vessels (bye boats), masters, passengers and seaman, particularly Garth and Brownwell, going to or from England and France and to secure and send to London all letters they find; written authority is requested for the Customs officers to detain such letters.
