Examination of Elizabeth Dolben, widow, in the presence of the Lord Chamberlain [Thomas Pelham-Holles, Duke of Newcastle], Lord Townshend [Secretary of State for the Northern Department], Lord Carteret [Secretary of State for the Southern Departmentand the Chancellor of the Exchequer [Sir Robert Walpole] as to whether or not she had had correspondence with any person in the Pretender's family or service at Rome. Her answer is 'that she is unwilling to answer any particular question to her own prejudice, being ignorant and unacquainted with the law'.
