A petition for mercy from Mitford Hendry, charged with murder following an incident in June 1721, in which he stabbed to death John Barugh. Hendry mistakenly believed Barugh was a highwayman, after the victim approached the coach in which the petitioner was travelling between Tuxford [Nottinghamshire] and Bawtry [Yorkshire]. Mentions the assizes judge Sir Littletown Powys, and the victim's widow Ann Barugh.
