Part 2, Folio 27. From John Price, Ordinary to the Bishop of Winchester. Place: Winchester.
'My Lord! Your Lordship has been pleased to procure a reprieve for your servant James Powell now under sentence of death for three weeks. He has a brother one John Powell condemned for the same crime and must die next Wednesday. If your Lordship would be pleased to intercede for a reprieve for three weeks it would give him as well as his brother time to prepare for another world. They came under my care not till last Monday, neither of them could say the Lord's Prayer, nor had any notion of a Deity. I have taken a great deal of pains with them and it will take more if his Majesty will be pleased to give me more time'.
