Part 1, Folios 80-81. Place: Southwick House [Hampshire].
Letter from R [Richard] Norton, reporting the theft of deer from the Royal Forest of Bere [near Fareham, Hampshire] (of which Norton is Warden) and the firing on of the lodges and his servants by at least ten 'disordered persons' four ringleaders of whom he has since sent to Winton [? Winchester] jail. He does not doubt that he will have sufficient proof 'to convict them as blacks or disguised' [poachers]. In a post script he says 'the insulting his Majesty is my only care to get punished'.
