Sir, of all sorts of oppression that of one subject over another by a wanton abuse of the power and trust reposed in him, and acting under the colour of justice is the very worst. How far this my case is applicable to His Majesty's Secretary at War [Thomas Trevor] is most humbly submitted, which I humbly beg leave to lay before you imploring your countenance and advice, that I may regulate my conduct as a faithful subject to His Majesty and Government, and be preserved from starving'.
