Folio 91. Joseph Smith to Lord Townshend. Petition that he belongs to the 4th Troop of Horse Guards; was by taken up by a messenger; by Townshend's order committed to Newgate and subsequently discharged since when the clerk of the Troop refuses to admit him to his post or allow him his pay from 6 July last on the pretence that Townshend had ordered he be neither restored nor paid. He did not receive his subsistence whilst in Newgate which Townshend had ordered to be paid. He prays to be restored to his post and paid what he is owed.
