Folios 73-77. George Kelly, prisoner, petitions to (1) Henry, Lord Viscount Lonsdale, Constable of the Tower of London praying that he use his influence to have the Duke of Newcastle's order, by which he is permitted 'to ride abroad for the recovery of his health' accompanied by the Gentleman jailer and a warder, be amended so that he is accompanied by one only thereby halving the expense of horse hire. (2) the King. That having been held a close prisoner for nearly six years at the King's pleasure in the Tower without pen, ink or paper or communication with his friends, he prays that 'this birthday of your Royal Consort' he be discharged. Two copies. (3) the Duke of Newcastle praying that if Kelly's petition to the King should come before the Duke in Council he would interpose his 'charitable offices in favour of so unhappy a sufferer'. (4) the Duke of Newcastle. That the greatest part of the allowance made by the King for Kelly's support in the Tower has been paid to his warder for lodgings and attendance; that the Gentleman Gaoler being willing at his own expense to take him into his house and care, Kelly prays that this be consented to.
