Folios 114-115. Declaration of innocence to The Lords of the Regency, of Josias Thompson, late Coast Surveyor in Ireland. He has been charged by Mr Medlicott, Mr Harrison, Irish Commissioners, in a letter to the Lord of the Treasury, of supporting wool smuggling, and thereby deprived of promotion promised by Sir Robert Walpole. At the same time this has caused national loss by stopping an enquiry into fraudulant exportation of wool from the coast. He has been accused of dropping a prosecution against the Master of a ship carrying men for the Pretender's service. He has been obliged to publicise his innocence after an examination undertaken by order of Lord Carteret.
