Folio 111. The Memorial of Sir Nicolas Tempest of Stanley in Durham, who prosecuted a suit in Chancery in 1699 against Lord Widdrington for several estates he held for his wife, formerly Jane Tempest. In 1707 the Memorialist accepted a Conveyance of a small part of the estates. [The Jacobite] Lord Widdrington was convicted of high treason, and the Conveyance adjudged void, because Sir Nicholas was a Papist. But he had no part in the [c 1715] Rebellion and has now become a Protestant, and begs for the King to intercede for him over the estates.
