Folio 100. Memorial to His Royal Highness [Prince William Augustus Duke of Cumberland] from the Earl of Sutherland reminding him of the sufferings undergone in defending the King's interests during the [Jacobite] Rebellion. Several weeks before the Rebellion broke out the Earl had intelligence from one of the clergy of Caithness that several there and in the islands of the Orkneys were engaged in a plot. The Pretender's eldest son [Charles Edward Stuart] was amongst them. Sutherland itemises the steps he took to overcome the Rebellion and appeals for some Government office to repair for his losses.
