Folio 92. Petition to the Duke of Newcastle of Walter Stewart, merchant and mariner. As master of the 'Dove', a British Sloop, he made a voyage to the Canaries and then to Dunkirk where a seaman, William Gill, after absenting himself from his Duty, demanded his discharge and wages, which the petitioner refused him. Gill took action against Stewart who has been imprisoned as a result, and faced £150 in legal expenses. He requests a consideration of his case and compensation for his legal expenses.
