Bond for the payment of £114 sterling by Alexander Hay the younger of Ardinbath, Banffshire to Francis Wright of St Margaret's Westminster on the back of which is part of a letter addressed to 'My Dear'. The writer says 'I am fully resolved to come to England for I think it long to see you, for we have been a long while parted and shall be longer if I do not come now to you because of the letting of the house and the repairing of it will take some time, and when we have finished our affairs if it should please God to give me my health I will come again to France in hopes to end my days there for I love that country better than England'. Part of the letter is in cypher with uncyphered references to Saint Germain, Dieppe, Boulogne and Mills. Mr Charitie, Alexander Hay, Mr Midleton the banquier are mentioned as is James Eliot, banquier, who is to be sued because the writer is 'resolved to have him ruined'.
