Folio 165. From John Horne. Rob. [Robert] Arbuthnet.
Letter from John Horne in which he says that he can pay his debts as well as Mr Robert Arbuthnett 'and keep a chariot and can afford to wear a scarlet coat trimmed with gold buttons as well as you', is satisfied he comes of a better family, can prove he has an annual income of £300 and threatens 'If I was a man that could cope with you I would pull you by the nose and break every rib you have about you to teach you better manners'. On the reverse is a letter from Robert Arbuthnet to an unnamed recipient asking that an unnamed woman be warned against John Horne as he 'will cheat her for he has no money and is owing money at Benniere [?Bernieres sur Mer, Normandy]'. He refers to Mr Hay son-in-law to Horne.
