Sir, Although unacquainted with you I have presumed to write this line and send this enclosed [? The Manifesto or Standard of the Church of Scotland'] earnestly desiring you to print it there: which if you do it will be a piece of generation work good in the sight of God and all good men and I am sure if the principles of this paper were followed and put in practice by all three nations (once covenanted to God) it would tend greatly to the glory of God and their good and be a means to deliver us from the heavy yoke of monarchy which neither our fathers nor we were or is able to bear but groaning under the heavy burden thereof unti we be delivered from it.'.
