Memorandum relating to the death of John Middleton in the pillory [at Charing Cross on 23 July 1723]. William Burton, coffee-man, John Sparrow and John Sheibell are mentioned. On the reverse there is another memorandum that the pillory is made to rise and fall according to the height of the person who is to stand in it and therefore it was unnecessary to place a stool, as alleged.
