A memorial from the South Sea Company concerning the capture of a Royal African Company trading factory at Cabenda [Cabinda, Angola] by a Portuguese man o'war [the 'Attalya' on 17 October 1723]. A vessel contracted to the South Sea Company, the 'Carteret' under Captain [John] Opie, which was engaged in transporting slaves from Cabinda to Buenas Aires [Argentiana], was damaged during the attack. As a result of the loss of the Cabinda factory, the Royal African Company is unable to meet contractual obligations to supply suFolios icient slaves to the South Sea Company, which, in turn, cannot meet its obligations under the Asiento, which requires them to supply 4,800 'negroes' annually to the Spanish West Indies.
