A petition from merchants of Bideford [Devon] who are seeking £8,720 damages for losses sustained in 1718 after war broke out with Spain, when they docked to selling cargoes of Newfoundland fish and their ships were seized. The petition relates to following seized vessels: the 'Neptune', Liscombe Davie commander, seized at Coruna; the 'True Love', John Hooper commander, seized at Cadiz; the 'Hope', Thomas Lake commander, seized at Cadiz; the 'Alexander', Wm [William] Babbage commander, seized at Cadiz; and the 'Mary Gally', Wm [William] Halls commander, seized at Cadiz.
