Folios 139-140. From Charles, Viscount Townshend. To Governor or Deputy Governor of the Bank of England. Place: Whitehall.
'Mr Morice has been with me and acquainted me with the advice you have had, as if there were a design to make an attempt on the Bank [of England] and that you desired that orders might be given to the Guards to come to your assistance upon the first notice, and as occasion might require. I have laid this advice with your request before the King, and am commanded by his Majesty to let you know that orders will immediately be sent to the commanding officers both of his Majesty's Horse and Foot Guards and likewise to the officer commanding the troop in the Tower to send detachments without loss of time to your assistance as soon as they shall be required'.
