Description

Folios 132-133. From Morgan Hansbie. To Mr Worthington at Bornheim. Place: London.

Ostensibly about business matters. That having been busy since his arrival he can say little yet of any of their concerns, 'only on a kind of general view, I do not at all like the looks of them, especially as to encouragement of our manufacture with you, which I perceive is but [in a] very low opinon with people here, who look not upon the products [as equal?] to the expenses employed in them. The exceptions are not so much against [word missing], as they are against the Director of them, out of whose hands tis said [there never] came any finished piece of work, whether for want of a method etc [words missing] but I remembered this was your own opinion in the case and [?therefore] beg you would advise with friends and let me know your thoughts of the [word missing] for I think something should be effectually done to support that business [word missing] person is not fit for it, why or wherefore tis not material, we ought [word missing] to endeavour to advance it by some other method, which according to [word missing] I am resolved to go through with, for you are sensible our main concern d[epends?] chiefly on that manufacture. Mr Grymes [Grimes] you hear is dead, and I am told left considerable effects which his friends are unwilling we should share in, and any precedent of our communicating with them in such cases, as they do not [word missing], say they, with us'. Don Carlos, Mr Hunter, Mr Gibson, who serves the Spanish ambassador, Mr Marshall, Cousin Mary who has invited the writer to spend the summer with her at the gravel pits near Kensington and Cousin Stapleton in town are mentioned as are Mr Williams, Mr Burgis and all at Louvain and Mr Winter and all friends at Brussels.
