Court and Date of Trial: Winchester City Sessions, County of Southampton, October 1838.
Crime: Larceny.
Initial Sentence: Seven years transportation.
Gaoler's Report: ‘Character bad, convicted before’.
Outcome: ‘Free pardon, see papers in case of Rhoda Dillaway, Hw 33’ [HO 17/52/33] 10 September 1841.
Petitions and letters: Petition from Charles Bailey (Town Clerk on behalf of the City of Winchester) on the grounds that as [the Crown] allowed the prisoner to remain in the gaol on account of her age, the Council think that the expense of her maintenance (£99-18s-6d to date) should be borne by the Treasury and that the council should be indemnified from any further charge, the Treasury having been appraised of the prisoner’s non-removal in February 1840.
