The Arts Council of Wales is a Welsh Government sponsored body, responsible for funding and developing the arts in Wales. It is an independent charity, established by Royal Charter in 1994. It became accountable to the National Assembly for Wales on 1 July 1999 when responsibility was transferred from the Secretary of State for Wales, and it is an executive Assembly Government Sponsored Body (AGSB). Its members are appointed by the Welsh Government?s Minister for Housing, Regeneration and Heritage. The Council also distributes funding from the National Lottery and raises additional money where it can from a variety of public and private sector sources.
