Folio 143. Lewis Monier to the Duke of Newcastle. Petition that having been sent by the Earl of Kinnoull with letters from the Grand Seignor and Vizier in Constantinople to the King the latter ordered a present of £300 of which he received, after deduction of taxes, £263 which by no means will defray his expenses of either the journey or his subsistence until he returns with the King's answer. He asks that the matter be represented to the King and further funds ordered. [Note the Earl of Kinnoull was Ambassador to the Ottoman Court from 1729-1737].
