Folio 88. J Kennedy to [?]. Letter. 'Sir, The necessity I am under with a numerous family is too great to be expressed and so is the shame I undergo being obliged to send my wife thus to apply for relief to persons of your rank or to starve. These considerations will I hope plead my pardon for this presumption, especially when Sir you may see the reality of my unhappy case in a certificate signed by several persons of quality. To these misfortunes must be added that of having lost my liberty for above a year and I and my family being afflicted with a deal of sickness your relief cannot come more seasonably nor to be a greater object of charity than to your most devoted humble servant'.
